Takashi Homma - 17
Takashi Homma - 17
During 2023 the influential Japanese photographer, Takashi Homma, completed an extended photoessay on artist, Raiki Yamamoto. Born in 2006, Raiki’s interdisciplinary work includes painting, sculpture, installation and performance pieces. Her first solo show “Untitled1” was shown at Galerie Tenko Presents in 2022, an important new gallery run by Tenko Nakajima Glenewinkel that hosts international artists in off-sites spaces around Tokyo. Her work was also included in group shows at 4649 and Agnes B. Gallery in Tokyo in 2022 and 2023, respectively. She lives and works between Kamakura and Tokyo. Takashi Homma is one of the most important contemporary photographers working in Japan. Homma’s work examines the nuances of Tokyo’s suburban districts, its urban centre, its surrounding landscapes, and its people - exploring a tender and discreet discourse on his hometown. Homma has published numerous photography books and in 1999 was awarded the prestigious Kimura Ihei Commemorative Photography Award for his project, ‘Tokyo Suburbia’ (1998), his formative work that is now considered a classic.
